Immaculate Conception is the third oldest church in the Archdiocese of Boston, built in 1857. This renovation and addition project is focused on preserving the unique character of the interior and exterior of this historic structure, while at the same time introducing new design elements.

Many aspects of the church were subtly redesigned to improve its flow, functionality, accessibility, and appearance. Before the renovations, the main area of the church consisted of many different levels, which detracted from the overall cohesiveness of the ceremonies. As a result of the new design, the floor is now one level. Interior finishes were all restored, and a new lighting system was provided.

Because the use of space required some modification to optimize comfort and functionality, the narthex was expanded and a new seating plan was created. A new entrance was constructed next to the parking lot, which was redesigned to feature a landscaped garden area bordering the new, wheelchair accessible entry walk.
