St. John's Preparatory School, founded in 1907, is a private, preparatory day school for young men. The school enrolls approximately 1,100 students in grades nine through twelve, who come from the North Shore, the Merrimack Valley, and southern New Hampshire. The campus occupies a 148-acre site located in Danvers, Massachusetts.

In March 1996, the St. John's Strategic Planning Committee outlined a plan for expansion and improvements to the school facilities. As part of the planning process, the Committee requested the preparation of a Space Needs Study. This study was to focus on curricular, athletic, and extracurricular programs, and to be developed as a "Campus Master Plan for Renovations and New Construction." The study proposed sites for new buildings and playing fields, and the redesign of existing campus vehicular circulation and parking areas.
