Sheet Metal Workers Office Building

Local 17 Sheet Metal Union Regional Headquarters Boston, Massachusetts Local 17 ‘s design program called for a signature building to demonstrate the Sheet Metal craft and contain a high quality HVAC systems. It also needed to be designed for a residential site with BRA and local approval and therefore be compatible in scale and design with neighborhood but also maximize the site for building square footage. It provides both open and private office spaces, conferencing areas, meeting rooms for union functions and a privately owner first floor office for the pension fund. The entry lobby is designed as an exhibit space. It provides entry from two sides of the building, the street and rear parking lot. Exposed stainless ductwork is was used in this space to show an example of the sheet metal craft and it also has display areas for Local 17 memorabilia. The building is designed to comply with the mass energy code. The exterior roof top HVAC units are shielded from adjutant residential homes for noise.
