St. Joseph Education Center
1998- 2000 Medway, Massachusetts
This new Education Center is located in a neighborhood surrounded by a natural resource area and residential homes. A master plan was developed to provide a new parish, including church, education center and residence. The first phase was the construction of a twenty-five thousand square foot Education Center. This building provides small classroom settings and space for large group functions. Its uses range from a community events venue to a senior citizen’s center to a preschool. The building is one story. It is designed to compliment the rural residential neighborhood. It is situated toward the front of the site, with parking behind. Open space for outdoor activities have been created to the south of the center, between the hall and future church, easily accessible from both buildings. The hall is multi-functional. It can be divided into two smaller meeting areas through a movable partition. The lighting system has been designed to allow for evening events with subdued lighting, and large group activities with high intensity lighting. The Education Center has 12 classrooms, administrative offices, a 900 seat hall, and a full commercial kitchen.
